School Project Made Door County Community Hive Possible

A special dedication ceremony for the Door County Beekeepers Community Hive is set for 4PM on Thursday, June 14th at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. Attendees may visit the hive area, view the comings and goings of the honeybees, and explore beekeepers’ tools and equipment. Following the dedication, enjoy honey lemonade and refreshments. This one-of-a-kind community hive will be used to educate people of all ages to explore the world of honeybees and beekeeping.

The development of a Door County Community Beehive would not have been possible were it not for the efforts of students at Southern Door High School. According to Superintendent Patti Vickman, the effort was spearheaded by students in an honors class…

Vickman says the students embraced this year’s environmental theme by creating a book entitled, “DC LAW”…

The funds from the book’s sale were used to purchase a honeybee flow hive, a stand, an observation bench, and a collection of pollinator plants.
