The Washington Island Board of Education will soon be going through the process of finding a new superintendent. Mati Palm-Leis, who has held the position for three years, informed the school board last week that he will leave the district as of June 30th. Palm-Leis was selected by the board of education out of a field of 13 candidates in June of 2015. Previously, he served as Special Education Director for the River Valley School District in Spring Green. Palm-Leis reportedly indicated his decision to resign was the outgrowth of a desire to be closer to family. The next person selected will become the fourth Washington Island Superintendent in less than ten years. Tim Raymond held the position for three years, Tammy Kielbasa spent one season at the helm and Mati Palm-Leis added three more years.
