He is Mati Palm Leis, a retired Director of Special Education for the River Valley School District in Spring Green. Island School Board President Amy Jorgenson says 13 people applied for the job and six were interviewed. Jorgenson says Palm Leis was the district’s top candidate. She says he was low-key, but able to easily interact with a wide range of people…
Jorgenson says the new superintendent’s experience was an important attribute, given the fact that he will be working with a staff of veteran educators, and he came highly recommended…
Jorgenson says the next challenge for the district is not bringing the new superintendent up to speed regarding the school system, it has to do with finding a place for him to stay…
While the Washington Island School Board has approved a contract, it must put its official stamp of approval on the hiring of Mati Palm Leis as superintendent at a future meeting. The contract is for two years with Palm Leis covering the positions of Superintendent, Principal and Director of Special Education. He officially begins work for the district July 1st.
