The Southern Door School District has been awarded $25,000 by the State of Wisconsin to build a “fab labs” program. Superintendent Patti Vickman says the “fab lab” will provide students with a hands-on environment for project-based learning and real-life experiences. She says the grant funding is an important step in acquiring the resources needed for the development of science, technology, engineering and math educational experiences for all students. The “fab labs” or fabrication laboratories program requires matching funds and is designed to prepare students for the manufacturing jobs of the future. The State of Wisconsin, through its economic development corporation, received 90 funding requests and provided grants for 25 school districts, including Southern Door.
