The grand opening celebration for the Sturgeon Bay skatepark will be held Saturday at the park’s location on the city’s west side. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Thad Birmingham, skating demonstrations, door prizes, and, music by the group Found the Lost. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative joined forces with the City of Sturgeon Bay and the Door County Community Foundation to raise $400,000 between the end of 2011 and the summer of last year. The new facility has been open since last fall. A variety of restaurants will also be on hand with food and beverages for purchase during the grand opening celebration Saturday. The skatepark is located at 16 West Spruce Street, near West Side Field, in Sturgeon Bay.
