Door County Sheriff Steve Delarwelle has decided that it’s getting to be the time when he will leave law enforcement. Delarwelle, who was elected sheriff in 2014, says he will be 60 years old at the end of his term. That and 27 years with the department are reasons to let someone else run for the job. Prior to being elected sheriff, Delarwelle was a sergeant on the night shift. One of his goals was to re-establish a K9 unit within the department, something he accomplished last year with the help of many donations. Delarwelle’s decision means a new sheriff will be elected to a four year term in November. Prospective candidates can begin the process by taking out nomination papers on April 15th. They will have until 5PM on June 1st to file the form.
