The matter of a referendum on a $34 million building project at Sevastopol School has been put on hold for the time being. The board of education tabled action on the proposal which included the construction of a $6.9 million auditorium. The project also includes additional classrooms, technology, cafeteria space, and other improvements. A recent survey of district residents indicated substantial opposition to the idea. While informational efforts were underway, it became apparent that the timing was not right for a referendum in the spring election. The board of education is expected to continue talking about the need for the additional space at the school in Institute, but it may not be until the spring of 2017 before the matter is brought before the voters.
