Three Door County Sheriff’s Department Deputies began their first day in school Tuesday. They weren’t training for a job, they were doing their job as school resource officers. Deputy Heather Bemmann is working at Gibraltar School, Officer Mark Hilsabeck is handling the duties at Sevastopol, and, Deputy Greg Medlen is on the job at Southern Door. In statements on the department’s web site, all three officers expressed excitement at the prospect of working with students. Bemmann said she will be on hand to assist if any challenges arise and help educate students and staff on issues related to law enforcement and school safety. Hisabeck acknowledges that the school resource officer program is new and there may be some growing pains, but is confident that it will be an great experience. Medlen said he is honored to be a part of the Southern Door educational experience and hopes to make some lasting relationships with students and staff at the school.
