Referendum for School Improvements at Algoma to be on Spring Ballot

The Algoma School Board approved the 2015/2016 budget Monday night that included a 4.58% reduction in the tax levy. The budget also included a resolution for a referendum for permission to issue general obligation bonds not to exceed $4.86 million for a proposed renovation of the Algoma Elementary School, high school restroom renovations, parking lot improvements at each school building, and equipment acquisition related to the projects. Details of the projects include a mechanical conversion from steam to hot water to improve efficiency at the elementary school, new parking lots at each building, building renovations at the elementary school to include a new main entry on the Fremont Street side of the school, a new backstage area for the auditorium, library, general music, band and specialty classrooms. The proposed referendum will be on the ballot for the Spring Election on April 5th.
