The annual Northern Door Holiday Home Tour on Thanksgiving weekend has been canceled. The event, which raises funds for the Northern Door Children’s Center in Sister Bay, was called off due to a shortage of homes. Executive Director Cindy Trinkner-Peot says, in order for the tour to be successful, there must be at least five homes taking part. However, there were only three homeowners who were able to participate this year. Trinkner-Peot says the holiday home tour is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers and canceling it was not an easy decision, given the ten thousand dollar shortfall its loss will have on the 2016 budget. She says the children’s center did not want to have the event unless it could be done with consistent quality. She expressed gratitude to the three families that offered their homes this year and said the Northern Door Children’s Center is planning to have a holiday home tour in 2017.
