Prospective candidates for office could begin the process of circulating nomination papers on Tuesday and, already, several individuals have decided to test the waters in Sturgeon Bay. According to City Clerk Stephanie Reinhardt, eight people have already taken out papers. The list includes Laurel Brooks who has announced that she wants to be mayor. In district two, where Ron Vandertie is the incumbent, Vandertie, Kelly Avenson and Paul Anschutz are circulating nomination papers. In district four, incumbent Rick Wiesner is gathering signatures and, in district six, Stu Fett has been joined by Nissa Norton and Tom Benzschawel in passing around nomination papers. It should be noted that just because someone has picked up nomination papers doesn’t mean that he or she will actually run. Nomination papers must be submitted to the appropriate clerk by 5PM on January 5th. Besides the City of Sturgeon Bay, seats on the Door County Board, school boards and many village and town board positions are expected to be contested in the April election.
