Voters in the City of Kewaunee approved a levy limit override by a 49 vote margin in referendum voting Tuesday. The totals were 690 Yes to 641 No votes. The increase to the levy will be 16.76%($175,000), and will be applied on an ongoing basis and included in the base used to calculate the limit in the future. The city intends to use the funding on debt service, balancing the 2017 budget, replenishing the general fund balance, and use some as a reserve for contingencies, emergencies and required capital expenditures. The impact to tax payers in the city is estimated at $1 per $1,000 of assessed value to the city portion of tax bills.
