Sturgeon Bay’s historic old bell tower will be the site of a special bell-ringing ceremony at 11:45AM on Tuesday, November 27th. The event will mark the first time in nearly a decade that the 118-year old bell will be sounded.
Located at Community Foundation Square, the old bell tower is a modern replica of the Bank of Sturgeon Bay’s original tower erected in 1900. The bell was hung in 1901 and remained there until 1939, dedicated to the people of Door County who have the courage to dream. When the structure weakened in 1946, the bell was donated to First Baptist Church and remained there until 1990, the 100th anniversary of the Bank of Sturgeon Bay. During the ceremony Tuesday morning, the bell will toll at 12-noon.
