A team from Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek picked up a gold medal during the 20th annual Solar Olympics held Wednesday on the campus of UW/Oshkosh. The Gibraltar contingent picked up the medal in the solar art challenge. A total of 19 teams competed as part of the event sponsored by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. Students were challenged to demonstrate their knowledge and skills with projects involving solar power by designing, constructing and demonstrating a solar cooker and a solar water heater, as well as racing a solar-powered model car. In addition, the students compete in an essay contest, a solar Jeopardy quiz game, and events for solar building, design, solar t-shirt design, solar sculpture, solar photography, a community outreach presentation and an advertising campaign.
