There was a fatal car accident Sunday afternoon in Sister Bay. Shortly after 1:00 pm the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a 2-vehicle crash on South Bay Shore Drive near the intersection with Highland Road. Emergency personnel reported that each vehicle had three occupants and all were injured. One was transported by helicopter to an area hospital, while the other 5 went by ambulance to the Door County Medical Center. A 75 year-old Janesville man was heading southbound on Bay Shore Drive in a 2019 Lincoln MKC when he crossed the center line and struck a 2019 Buick Encore, driven by a 64 year-old Maribel woman, head on. It was reported that an 89 year-old Sturgeon Bay woman, a passenger in the Buick, had died due to injuries from the crash. South Bay Shore Drive (which is Highway 42) was closed off for several hours while deputies and the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash site. Assistance with the incident response included the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Rire Department and First Responders, the Ephraim Rire Department, Door County Emergency Services, Eagle III, the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Unit, Door County Highway Department, and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office. No further information is being released at this time pending notification of next-of-kin, and the crash remains under investigation.
