There was an incident Monday where the Door County Sheriff’s Department called upon a newly created team, the “Missing or Endangered Response Team” (or MERT). This was the first time this team was called upon here in Door County, and Chief Deputy Patrick McCarty says it was an opportunity to let them conduct their duties and make sure all their notifications and responses were correct. He tells us in larger law enforcement agencies they have a “Child Abduction Response Team” (or CART) but here in Door County the team would be more all-encompassing……
This Door County team is led by Deputy Curt Vandertie, and is made up of various local law enforcement members…..
Chief Deputy McCarty says this team’s scope was broadened beyond child abductions since Door County thankfully does not have many such cases, but it can certainly be utilized in any type of missing person scenario.
