For more than a dozen years, Door County law enforcement officers have been paired with youngsters to help the kids and their families have a happy holiday season. This year, the program entitled, “Chop & Shop With a Cop,” will be held on Saturday, December 10th at several locations. Lieutenant Tammy Sternard of the Door County Sheriff’s Department says the annual event is made possible because of the contributions of many people on multiple levels who are part of the joint professional law enforcement association. Sternard says the day’s activities begin with the visit to a tree farm where the 30 children and the officers cut down a Christmas tree. Then it’s off to Target where the children will shop for family members, meet Santa, and, are given treats provided by the store. The group then moves to the Knights of Columbus hall in Sturgeon Bay for a gift wrapping party followed by a party with pizza provided by Sonny’s Pizzeria. Anyone interested in helping kids in Door County have a merry Christmas is invited to send a donation to Joint Professional Law Enforcement of Door County, and “Chop & Shop With a Cop” in care of the Door County Sheriff’s Department.
