Baileys Harbor 4th of July Parade to Switch Directions

Door County’s oldest parade, the 4th of July parade in Baileys Harbor, will be changing directions in 2015. The new plan calls for the venerable march through the village to now begin at the Ridges Sanctuary and head south, rather than the other way around. A number of reasons for the change have been listed,

-People lining up on the street corners were getting
in the way of large trucks trying to turn, creating a safety hazard…

-Floats trying to get to the parade in Egg Harbor
can get out of town quickly and avoid getting stuck
in traffic…

-The growth of the event has raised safety concerns
about leaving County F open…

-Summit Road can now be used for parking in order
to alleviate congestion downtown…

and…

-Park road can’t be used because the fire station
needs to be free of obstructions in the event of an
emergency.

The new parade route is the outgrowth of discussions involving the town, the community association, Door County, the fire department, emergency medical services, and, the Department of Transportation. It should also be noted that a free trolley will be operating from the Recreational Park to downtown Baileys Harbor from 8:30AM to 5PM.
