YMCA Assembles Peterson Park Playground

A community effort to build a playground near the Sturgeon Bay YMCA program center went off like clockwork Saturday as close to 200 people came together to get the job done. The project at Peterson Park, spear-headed by the Y and its partners, came together much quicker than had been anticipated, according to YMCA Chief Executive Officer Tom Beerntsen…

Led by a large donation by Baylake Bank and with support from the national non-profit Kaboom, the Y was able to move ahead with the project on the ten acre site nearby. Beerntsen agreed that the park and playground are part of the outreach effort that goes beyond the local organization’s programming…

The playground facing 19th Place is part of a master plan for Peterson Park which also includes construction of rest room facilities, a walking path, a small amphitheater, an additional sports field and a prairie garden.
