Who Pays for Ice Rescues?

Local emergency service crews are often called out during the winter season to rescue people who have become stranded on the ice. In many cases, the rescue operations are conducted in dangerous weather conditions. During a recent visit to WDOR, Warden Chris Kratcha was asked if the people taken off the ice are required to pay for the costs involved in their rescue…

Kratcha says the matter of whether or not to charge for an ice rescue is often a tough call…

Warden Kratcha says, oftentimes, it’s up to the individual to use common sense before deciding to go put onto the ice. He says no fish is worth putting yourself or others in danger.
