There was a fire call in the Sturgeon Bay Industrial Park Wednesday evening. Just after 6:00 pm, the call came in for smoke and flames coming from a rooftop chimney on the south end of the C & S Manufacturing building on Neenah Ave, that call coming from a few Hatco employees next door who noticed the fire. Sturgeon Bay Assistant Fire Chief Kalin Montevideo reports her department paged a general alarm and responded with 9 apparatus and 23 firefighters. One aerial ladder was deployed early on to gain a better view of the rooftop since the drone operators had not arrived yet. From inside, they extinguished the fire rather quickly with approximately 250 gallons of water, the origin of the fire being a plastic coating machine. Also on the scene were Door County EMS, The Sturgeon Bay Police Department, and the Wisconsin DNR for the use of their air boat in ventilating the building. C & S Manufacturing was closed at the time, and Assistant Fire Chief Montevideo says it was lucky the fire was spotted early by the Hatco employees next door……
With the extended ventilation process, the entire response took just over 3 ½ hours, and there were no injuries.
