The US Coast Guard will conduct ice-breaking operations in northern Green Bay Friday through Sunday(1/29-31) between Marinette/Menominee and Sturgeon Bay. On Friday, the Coast Guard Cutter, Mobile Bay, will escort the tug, Jimmy L., and its barge from Sturgeon Bay to Marinette. The vessels will travel north and east of Green Island, approaching the Menominee entrance from the Michigan waters of Green Bay. On Sunday, the Mobile Bay, will lead the, Jimmy L., and its barge back from Marinette, following the same path through northern Green Bay and east of Green Island. All ice fishermen should remove their shanties and equipment from these areas, especially from the Menominee entrance channel and areas near Marinette Marine. Snowmobile, all-terrain vehicle operators and other recreational users should avoid shipping channels, plan their activity carefully, and, use caution near this area of operation.
