Thursday Power Outage in Egg Harbor

There was a power outage in northern Door County Thursday afternoon. Shortly after 12:00 noon, it was reported a large vehicle had snagged a communication wire mounted to a utility pole along Highway 42 near the intersection with County Road “E” on the north side of Egg Harbor. That utility pole snapped and caused the power outage. WPS Spokesperson Matt Cullen informed us that initially about 3,200 utility customers were impacted, but the system was able to make some quick alterations so that number of affected customers was reduced to 1,520. That section of Highway 42 was blocked off and traffic was detoured around the area while crews responded and were able to restore power just before 1:30 pm, so the power was out for about 75 minutes. We will report more on this incident as more information is made available.
