There was a major power outage in northern Door County early Thursday morning, but the cause of that outage ultimately was a tree which fell on a power line near Egg Harbor Wednesday afternoon. An emergency call came in just before 4PM for a tree on fire after it had fallen onto the line near the intersection of Heritage Lake Road and County Road E. The tree was burning, but Fire Chief MacDonald says it was not near any structure and luckily the area was quite wet from our recent precipitation…
The American Transmission Company then waited until 12:30 Thursday morning to cut the power to the Egg Harbor substation and conduct some repairs. There were over 4,000 utility customers without power to the north of that area, including Washington Island, for approximately 45 minutes to one hour. By 1:45AM, power was fully restored to all WPS customers of northern Door County.
