Sturgeon Bay’s Woodside Park could get a name change if the city council agrees Tuesday. The Park and Recreation Committee and Board is recommending that the west side park adjacent to Sawyer School, between Highway 42/57 and Willow Drive, be renamed Woodside Wildflower Preserve during a joint meeting of the two committees in March, Municipal Services Superintendent Bob Bordeau explained that the park had many native wildflowers that are not found in many other places in the county. Bordeau said the Master Gardener’s organization, along with Sawyer School students and teachers, have put a lot of work into removing invasive weeds in order to help wildflowers thrive. He also noted that the wildflowers would be identified with plaques throughout the newly named area. There are more than two dozen parks in the City of Sturgeon Bay.
