The Door County Historical Museum has been working an a project they call “The Sidewalk Block Project.” It’s a look at Sturgeon Bay and the corner stones including the old street names, before 1943. Some sidewalk blocks have the old street names stamped in and some resident’s names are also engraved. 18 stones have been located and photographed and research done to explain what it all means.
You are invited to stop in at the museum and see the display and a map telling where all this is located. That way if you’d like to take a look at these places you can find them and find out about a historic home or business. Some are actually located in the neighborhood of the museum so you can take a look after seeing the display inside the museum. There’s also room for more, if you know of a name in the sidewalk, somewhere in Sturgeon Bay,
that is not a part of the display please tell the museum staff.
The Door County Historical Museum is located at the corner of 4th Avenue and Michigan Street and is open from 10AM to 4:30PM daily. If you need more information, call (920)743-5809.
