Sturgeon Bay Woman Faces Three Counts of Animal Mistreatment

Sturgeon Bay Police say a city woman faces three counts of animal mistreatment in connection with the deaths of three kittens. Earlier this week, a resident called the police department and indicated that a woman had been seen throwing the kittens into a garbage can. A police officer contacted the suspect and she admitted drowning three kittens, placing them in a metal box and dumping the box in the garbage. The 58-year old woman said she could not afford to care for the kittens or the surrender fee at the Door County Humane Society. The officer also contacted the Door County Humane Officer who said, according to American Veterinary Association guidelines, drowning is not an accepted form of euthanasia. The case has been turned over to the district attorney’s office.
