The City of Sturgeon Bay is seeking proposals from individuals and organizations interested in rehabilitating and developing the grain elevator on the former Door County Cooperative property. A survey of the building on the city’s west side waterfront indicates that it could cost about $77,000 to stabilize the structure as it is now and many more thousands to rehabilitate it for future use, a task that the city is not prepared to engage in. Would-be developers typically have about 90 days to provide the RFP’s issued by the waterfront development authority. If no one comes forward to rescue it, the 130-year old structure could end up a victim of the wrecking ball.
