Sturgeon Bay Council Addresses City Administrator Position

It appears that Sturgeon Bay City Administrator Josh VanLieshout will be on the payroll a little longer. The effort to oust VanLieshout was short-circuited Tuesday evening following a marathon meeting of the city council, including a closed session. The council approved a motion made by council-member Seth Wiederanders and seconded by alderperson Barb Allmann that the city’s personnel committee develop a formal review process for the city administrator with a timeline to be set for the review process. In addition, the personnel committee must review and update the city administrator position description. Council-member Kelly Avenson voted no. At a previous council session, Mayor Thad Birmingham asked that the reasons why some council-members were disenchanted with VanLieshout be discussed in open session. However, alderperson Kelly Catarozoli said the information was better dealt with behind closed doors and a majority of the council agreed.

*A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that alderperson Kelly Catarozoli had voted no on the motion. That line has been corrected.*
