In a recent statement from the City of Sturgeon Bay, it says they have received complaints regarding the continued display of political candidate signs throughout the city, with the last election being well over a month ago. It then says that any political message signs on behalf of a candidate for public office still on display is a violation of the city’s sign code and should be removed. The city’s code states that a political message sign on behalf of a political candidate for public office is permitted during the period beginning on the first day of circulation of nomination papers and shall be removed within 5 days following the general election. Consistent with freedom of speech rights in the First Amendment, other types of political messages can be displayed. If there are any questions concerning this matter you can direct them to the city’s Community Development Department at 920-746-2910.
