A 13 year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon after he was struck on his bicycle by a pickup truck on Sturgeon Bay’s west side. Shortly after 4:30 pm, the boy was northbound on Neenah Avenue, just north of Highway 42/57, when he made an improper and erratic lane change, cutting across the road. At that time, a 47 year-old Sturgeon Bay man was southbound on Neenah Ave in his Silverado pickup truck. He later told the responding officer that he saw the boy swerve into his path on the bicycle, but when he hit the brakes it was too late and he could not keep from striking the boy. Two witnesses also collaborated his explanation of the events. The boy was given EMS ground transport to the Door County Medical Center for treatment of suspected serious injury. The driver of the pickup truck showed no signs of being impaired or under the influence, and no citation was given. That section of Neenah Avenue was closed off for about 45 minutes while responders tended to the scene.
