Sturgeon Bay Apartment Building Fire

Shortly after 10:15 Wednesday morning, a structure fire started in a four-unit apartment building on the 400 block of Sturgeon Bay’s N. 7th Avenue. Flames and heavy black smoke were spotted coming from the building. Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Tim Dietman reports his department sent 8 trucks and 18 firefighters to the scene, and they had assistance from Southern Door who sent 1 engine and 4 firefighters. Also on scene were Sturgeon Bay police and Door County EMS. They attacked the fire with an aerial hose and knocked the majority of the blaze down in 15 minutes. Then they went inside to search for any occupants and put out any remaining hot spots. Fire Chief Dietman explains what happened with a family in one apartment………..

Both the man and woman who jumped out of the 2nd-story windows were taken to the hospital to be checked out, the woman stating she had an injured ankle. The fire caused substantial damage to the building by the time it was extinguished, and all 4 apartments have been rendered uninhabitable. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and the situation remains under investigation.
