South Dock Wall Being Reconstructed at Bay Shipbuilding

The strong position of industry in Sturgeon Bay has been reflected this year in several expansion or construction projects in the city’s industrial park. The effort is also occurring at Bay Shipbuilding where a reconstruction project has been seen at the firm’s south dock wall. According to the Door County Economic Development Corporation, the project is supported by a $2.65 million Harbor Assistance Program Grant administered by the state department of transportation. The total project cost is closer to $3.31 million. Work consists of building 430 linear feet of dock wall and removing 14,000 cubic yards of dredge material. Since the local shipyard was acquired by the Fincantieri Group, the Italian shipbuilder has invested $30 million in the local operation.
