The Door County Sheriff’s Department reports receiving a number of reports of a fundraising solicitation that surfaced recently. Chief Deputy Pat McCarty says the caller poses as a representative of the sheriff’s office. McCarty says the department would never ask for money over the phone or ask you to purchase gift cards and provide the numbers. He says if you receive a call that doesn’t seem legitimate hang up. The suspected scam remains under investigation.
