Settlement Rejected by Waterfront Authority

It appears that the impasse between the City of Sturgeon Bay and a friends group over a segment of the city’s west side waterfront will continue. The Sturgeon Bay Waterfront Redevelopment Authority has rejected a proposed settlement to end the impasse. The WRA met earlier this week, nine days after tabling any action on the matter. During their session, the committee heard from its attorneys in the matter of a declaratory meeting on the ordinary high watermark for the property in question. The consensus was that the Department of Natural Resources was disinclined to hold a declaratory meeting until it was certain whether a settlement would be reached or not. After an hour of conferring with special legal counsel and debating the merits of the proposed settlement, the WRA voted five to two to reject the proposal. The matter is now expected to be taken up by the Sturgeon Bay City Council on Tuesday.
