The Door County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that one person died and another sustained injuries in a two vehicle collision that occurred shortly before 9AM Friday morning near the intersection of Highway 42/57 and Gordon Road (County BB), on the northern edge of Sturgeon Bay. The male victim, Raymond F. Hogan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, a Door County woman, was transported to medical facilities for treatment. The Door County Technical Crash Unit is investigating the fatal traffic accident. The initial analysis indicates that an eastbound vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Double B and attempted to turn north onto 42-57, but was struck by a car heading south on the highway. The sheriff’s department provided traffic control, a detour was set up on the busy highway, with the help of the Sturgeon Bay Police Department. Highway 42/57 was closed for several hours and didn’t reopen until noon. The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department and Door County Emergency Services also provided personnel.
So far this year, three people have died in Door County traffic accidents.
