Reports of another scam surfacing in Door County have been turned over to local law enforcement. This time, customers of Sturgeon Bay Utilities have been targeted. The caller tells customers that their electrical service will be shut down if they don’t make a payment within 30 minutes. Use of a pre-paid debit card is suggested. The local utility says its policy calls for sending a letter to the customer if a problem arises. The letter is followed up with a reminder phone call. In some cases, a tag is placed on the door of an affected property. However, it is never the policy of Sturgeon Bay Utilities to indicate that the bill should be paid with a pre-paid debit card.
