Road Work Closes Stretch of Highway 42 in Forestville

Work began Tuesday on a stretch of Highway 42, between County X and County J, in the Village of Forestville. The project involves the replacement of an existing box culvert with a new bridge, and, the construction of bridge approaches, including the installation of curb and gutter, asphalt pavement, storm sewer, signage, and, pavement marking. This week, the contractor will continue to form and tie reinforcing steel for the south bridge abutment and place concrete for the abutment, excavate for the removal of the existing box culvert, and, remove the top of the culvert and begin to remove its sidewalls. Highway 42 in the affected area will be closed for the duration of the project. The detour(from south to north) will take drivers from Highway 42 to County X to County D to County J and back to Highway 42, a distance of about three and a half miles. The project comes with a pricetag of $475,000.
