Door County emergency rescue crews were called to Lake Michigan, off Whitefish Dunes State Park Wednesday afternoon at 12:17PM, after a call that 6 kayaks carrying 11 people were in trouble due to fog and high waves on the lake. Sturgeon Bay Assistant Fire Chief Kaylin Montevideo told WDOR News that all of the people made it safely to shore and the rescue teams cleared the scene by about 1:20PM. Five of the kayaks made it to shore at the park and the other a bit farther north, between Whitefish Dunes and Cave Point County Park. Sturgeon Bay Fire, Door County Emergency Services, the Jacksonport Fire Department, and the US Coast Guard were all on scene. All of the kayakers made it to shore on their own and there were nor injuries reported.
