Four visitors from the United Kingdom, connected to law enforcement, were honored with proclamations at the meeting of the Sturgeon Bay City Council Wednesday afternoon. The trio are attending a special seminar at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay. Mayor Thad Birmingham lauded each officer for creating a positive and enduring relationship with the City of Sturgeon Bay. Others in the group include Simon Clasper who serves as Deputy Head of Hertford regional college which provides policing certificate courses for those hoping to become a Police Constable in England and Wales and Police Constable Mark Bishop who began his career in 1988 and currently serves on front line response for the British Transport Police. The proclamations included a special day in Sturgeon Bay for each officer, Piper on June 2nd, Bishop on June 3rd, Leah on June 4rth and Clasper on June 5th. Mayor Thad Birmingham and Police Chief Arleigh Porter were each presented a “Bobbies” helmet and Porter received a truncheon referred to in America as a night stick.
