Phone Scammers Target Sturgeon Bay Utilities Customers

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department has heard from several businesses that were contacted by an individual purporting to be from Sturgeon Bay Utilities and indicating that their services would be shut down if they didn’t make a payment immediately. In one case, the caller gave the business 15 minutes to make the payment or else. City police say the calls are a variation of a familiar scam and Sturgeon Bay Utilities would never operate that way. The local firm provides notices in advance and attempts to find ways to deal with pass due bills short of disconnection.
