Petersilka & Zahn Honored by State Associations

Carey Petersilka, Door County Register of Deeds, was recently presented the distinguished “President’s Award” at the recent conference of the Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association in La Crosse. The award is presented to one person annually and is given for outstanding contributions to the association. Peterasilka was recognized for investing countless hours planning, organizing and traveling, for the benefit of the constituents she serves. In accepting the award, Petersilka said she was honored and humbled to have been selected as this year’s recipient of the prestigious award. She said serving on the organization’s board of directors has provided another way for her to advocate for Door County residents on a statewide level. The Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association is a 72-member organization. Since becoming Door County Register of Deeds in 2005, Petersilka has served the WRDA in some capacity on the board, including President in 2016. She is currently serving as Past President and on several committees. In addition, Petersilka is a member of the Wisconsin Constitutional Officer’s Association, the Wisconsin Counties Association and the Wisconsin Land Information Association.

The Wisconsin Treasurers’ Association presented a special recognition award to Door County Treasurer Jay Zahn at the organization’s conference at the Hyatt Regency in Green Bay recently. The award was based on contributions to the organization in which the recipient went above and beyond normal expectations, enhancing the ability of county treasurers to fulfill their responsibilities while exhibiting the expertise or personal talent to promote or improve the statewide group. Jay Zahn has been Door County Treasurer for 27 years. A 1975 graduate of Sevastopol High School, he received his degree from the University of Wisconsin/Oshkosh four years later. Jay is also a former news director and sales manager at WDOR.
