The Peninsula Players Theatre was recently awarded a sustainability grant from the arts fund administered by the Door County Community Foundation. The grant is earmarked for “The Play’s the Thing” program which offers free, off-season, play readings to the public. In addition, the program, in collaboration with Write On Door County, provides opportunities for students to receive instruction that culminates in a play writing contest. The free public play readings, held at various sites throughout Door County, are an enriching opportunity for the community to hear theatrical pieces read aloud by professional actors. Many of the plays would not normally be produced at the Peninsula Players. For the students, the program provides the setting to learn about different ways of writing and practice applying that learning with the help of professional guidance.
