A statewide mobilization called Operation Dry Water will be taking place this week. During the campaign, law enforcement agencies will be working to ensure that drugged or drunken boating doesn’t happen. The hope is that the strong presence of boats manned by law enforcement crews will act as a deterrent for those who might attempt to operate watercraft while under the influence. Locally, the Door County Sheriff’s Department, Sturgeon Bay Police, area fire departments, the Department of Natural Resources and the US Coast guard, at one time or another, serve the public by having boats in the water. While Operation Dry Water happens annually on the weekend before the 4th of July, law enforcement agencies believe its message of safe and sober boating should be followed throughout the season.
