Some members of the Door County Board of Supervisors are expected to tour the former county highway shop off 14th avenue in Sturgeon Bay Tuesday morning. After working on the logistics for a new central ambulance garage and community resource center in Sturgeon Bay, the county board, at its last regular meeting, decided to take a step back and consider a different direction, rather than authorizing an advanced phase of both projects. The focus has now turned to the old highway shop, put out to pasture when the new highway garage in Sturgeon Bay was opened off Duluth Avenue more than a decade ago. Now the question is, “is it feasible to put a new ambulance garage and the senior center in a renovated highway shop?” We’re told requests for proposals have been issued for a feasibility study of the structure. Representatives of firms that might take on the study project are also expected to tour the building Tuesday.
