Officials Warn of IRS Scam in the Area

The so-called IRS scam has surfaced in the area and WDOR News has learned about one local victim who was taken for $500. Ironically, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection put out an alert Friday detailing the form of payment utilized locally, an iTunes gift card. Consumers statewide are reporting aggressive calls from scammers claiming to be with the IRS, demanding immediate payment for (fake) back taxes. The callers typically threaten the potential victims with legal action or jail time. Consumer protection specialist Jerad Albrecht says keep this in mind always, the Internal Revenue Service will never call you demanding immediate payment or making threats.
