The City of Sturgeon Bay, working in conjunction with Sturgeon Bay Utilities, will begin work the major reconstruction of East Oak Street, from South Madison Avenue to South Neenah Avenue, on Monday. Degroot, Incorporated of Green Bay is the contractor. City Engineer Chad Shefchik says the contractor is starting the project earlier than expected because of favorable spring conditions. Shefchik is asking the affected residents not to tamper with wooden stakes on their property. The stakes are used to control locations and elevations of water lines, sewer lines, curbs, sidewalks and so on. Removing the stakes could lead to improper installations and costly delays. The contractor is planning on working between 7AM and 5:30PM, although deviations to then schedule may arise as needed. Because of the early start, the project on East Oak Street could be wrapped up prior to June.
