A 15-year old northern Door County youth sustained a serious head injury in a tubing accident Sunday afternoon, about a mile out on the bay of Green Bay, near Fish Creek. The teen was part of a group of four county juveniles tubing near the number six buoy around 5PM. According to a report filed at the Door County Sheriff’s Department, the tube apparently started heading toward the buoy after it was hit by the wake from another vessel. Two of the youths jumped off, the injured party did not and struck the buoy. A friend found him unconscious in the water and brought him to their boat. As the teens were heading to shore, they were met by authorities who put the injured boy on a long board before heading to a dock and the transfer to a nearby ambulance. The injured teen was then put on the Eagle Three helicopter at the Ephraim airport and flown to Saint Vincent hospital in Green Bay. A condition report is unavailable at this time. Multiple emergency units were involved in the rescue effort including the sheriff’s department, the DNR, and the Gibraltar Fire Department.
