A state park in Door County is one of a dozen parks in the state participating in the “12 Gem Challenge” launched Thursday by the Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources and Tourism, and the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks. People visiting Newport State Park and 11 other designated state properties can take a selfie at any and all of the designated locations, post it on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #wistateparks. People can find the designated locations using a mobile-friendly story map that can be access either through the DNR or Travel Wisconsin websites. The other state parks in the “12 Gem Challenge” include Brunet Island, Governor Nelson and Governor Thompson State Parks, Harrington Beach, Hartman Creek, Lakeshore, Perrot, the Richard Bong Recreation Area, the Stower Seven Lakes Trail, Wyalusing and Yellowstone Lake Parks. The winner receives a 2017 Wisconsin State Park sticker. The challenge runs through November 13th.
