New Contract Awarded To Bay Shipbuilding

BayshipFincantieri/Bay Shipbuilding has announced that it has been awarded a contract to build an articulated tug barge or A.T.B. for delivery in late 2017. The contract, recently signed by the Fincantieri Marine Group, includes an option for a second A.T.B. unit to potentially be delivered in 2018. Todd Thayse, vice-president and general manager of the shipyard in Sturgeon Bay, says the new contract is good news for the local firm and the surrounding community…

The new barge, at 578 feet by 78 feet, will have a capacity of 185,000 barrels. Its tug will be an 8000 horsepower unit equipped with new tier four engines to meet the latest E.P.A. emission standards. Thayse says the contract will help Bay Shipbuilding as it works to provide employment for hundreds of area workers…

When complete, the new articulated tug barge will operate on the east coast and the Gulf of Mexico.
